Three sisters - Sachi, Yoshino and Chika - live together in a large house originally belonging to their grandmother in the city of Kamakura. Yoshi works in a bank and is reasonably content with her job but drinks too much, Chika works in a sports shop and is the baby of the group, while Sachi is a nurse at the local hospital who is beautiful but emotionally frozen, unhappily involved in an affair with a married doctor. All three have long been estranged from both parents. Their father left them to live with another woman, with whom he had a child before moving on to wife number three. Their mother walked out as well leaving them as young adults. But, when they receive news of their father’s death, they travel to the countryside for his funeral and meet their shy charming teenage half-sister Suzu. Bonding quickly with her, they invite her to live with them. They adore taking care of her, which gives them a new purpose in life and a new kind of personal direction. But her existence reminds them of their own orphaned situation which will trigger a joyful discovery of what their own existences mean.
